55 years later, the salesman who sold the first Ford Mustang built will be reunited with it

Capt. Stanley Tucker and His Ford Mustangs, Numbers 1 and 1 Mill

CNN Article Amanda Jackson:

A retired salesman in Canada (Harry Phillips) is heading to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, to be reunited with a Ford Mustang he accidentally sold 55 years ago.

Ahead of the launch of the Ford Mustang in 1964, car dealerships were sent a preproduction vehicle to display. They weren’t intended to be sold to customers, but one — with the very first Mustang serial number — was purchased by a pilot in Newfoundland. Click here for more…

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: tops 700 hp and hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds …

2020 Shelby GT500

Driving.ca “This is, says Ford, the fastest street-legal Mustang it has ever produced. They won’t say exactly how fast – or even how powerful – the new Shelby GT500 will be, but the numbers they are willing to stand by are pretty darned impressive.

For instance, the 2020 Mustang GT500 will hit 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres an hour) in under 3.5 seconds. It will also cut the quarter mile timing lights in less than 11 seconds. That is all thanks to its 5.2-litre supercharged V8 pumping out “more than” 700 horsepower. How much “more than”, the company’s not saying, but am I the only thinking that the big GT is undergoing some last minute tweaks so that Ford can guarantee it can out-dyno Dodge’s 707-hp Challenger Hellcat?” See more here…

For Sale: 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe – VIN 00002

The first Ford Mustang Coupe ever built, sold accidentally in the Yukon in 1965, is going to be at the Barret Jackson auction.

First Mustang Coupe side

VIN 5F07U100002
Exterior Color CASPIAN BLUE
Interior Color MEDIUM BLUE
Cylinders 6
Engine Size 170CI
Transmission 3-SPEED MANUAL

“The very first Ford Pilot Plant / Pre-production Mustang hardtop. This 1965 Mustang started the Pony Car revolution in American car building, resulting in the later creation of the Camaro and Firebird. It was hand-assembled at the Ford Pilot Plant and is one of three known existing Pilot Plant Mustangs to survive.

This special Mustang has been restored to factory new specifications, with all major components having matching numbers. It is powered by a 170ci 6-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. Included with the First Ford Mustang Hardtop is a set of two binders containing ownership and condition affidavits from all previous owners, along with photos, statements and signatures from high-profile originators of the Mustang, including Lee Iacocca, Hal Sperlich, Don Frey, Gale Halderman and others.

The binders also include the vast provenance documentation confirming the entire history of the car, and complete restoration documentation in photograph, 35mm slide and video formats. A letter from Ford Motor Company confirming this Mustang as the first Mustang hardtop built is also included.

Among its film and television appearances, this Mustang was used by 20th Century Fox Pictures in video shoots with Matt Damon (starring as Carroll Shelby) and Christian Bale in the up-coming full-length feature film “Ford v. Ferrari” (the true story of the battle between the two marques to win Le Mans in 1966), scheduled to open in the summer of 2019. This hardtop is being sold after 20 years of ownership by a nationally known Mustang historian and author Bob Fria.”

Ontario to scrap Drive Clean emissions test…

… instead it will target heavy-duty vehicles. Proposed changes will be subject to 30-day public consultation, province says.  Ontario’s Drive Clean vehicle emissions testing program will be dismantled next year and replaced with a new system that will focus on heavy-duty vehicles such as transport trucks.

In a news conference Friday, Premier Doug Ford said the program worked well when it was introduced in 1999 and but grew less useful as the automotive industry adopted more stringent emissions standards.

“Drive Clean was created almost 20 years ago but 20 years later, the family car now creates much less pollution. So Drive Clean has outlived its usefulness,” he said.

Only five per cent of vehicles failed the test last year, compared with 16 per cent in 1999, and the trend is expected to continue, the government said. Read more here … Ontario getting rid of the Drive Clean Test

50th Anniversary Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

50th-anniversary-ford-mustang-cobra-jet-logoIts not street-legal, and only 68 will be built.

Ford has a new Mustang that seeks to eat the Dodge Challenger Demon for dinner, as long as the meal is only served at the track. The Blue Oval has unveiled its new Mustang Cobra Jet ahead of the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise, and it’s not what you’d call slow. In fact, Ford says it’s the fastest production Mustang to ever grace a drag strip, capable of reaching 150 mph (241 km/h) in the quarter-mile while covering the distance in the mid-eight-second range – a full second quicker than the race-equipped, 840-horsepower (626-kilowatt) Demon. Prototype Shelby Mustang found after 50 years…

One of two pivotal Experimental cars built by Shelby has been found in a Texas field, 50 years after it disappeared – and the owner had no idea what he owned.

Shelby’s ‘Little Red’ prototype Mustang GT500 EXP has been found in Texas after years of searching – making for one of the most significant finds in American car collector history.

The big-block Shelby notchback coupe was one of a pair of ‘experimental’ cars built by Ford Motor Company and Shelby American. It was an important developmental car, which showcased a variety of ideas, from a restyled body to adding a Paxton supercharger to the big-block V8.

Little Red eventually became the model for Ford’s 1968 Mustang California Special but once finished with it was moved into storage – and there the trail went cold.
